Four mana for a land is terrible, but if there's a chance you'll get some benefit out of it, Marath will give you something to do with all that mana

Omnath, Locus of Rage follows a similar play pattern, but just gives you a 5/5 for each land you play

But Greg, Ariel is a Super Rare and Gaston is an Uncommon, so it should be better. While the rarity of a card certainly can play a part in its value on the table, its not always 100% the case
