one of our cutters came across some material and really wanted to cut it

This is never found in nature or even in cheap flame fusion sapphire because it requires extreme chemical purity--even a hint of iron mixed in will result in a deep blue color

Each lap comes with a spacer to allow the lap nut to lock it in place

It is what we call a 'lumogarnet' - a lab created garnet with incredible fluorescence

These labgrown sapphires have bubbles in them from the growth process we call this variety 'strawberry sapphires' since they have seeds. Titanium sapphire is a very unusual variety of sapphire, never found in nature. Because even a few parts per million of iron will interact with titanium ions and produce a dark blue, there's nowhere on Earth a crystal like this could grow
